What is Charleston to You?

Imaging Arts put out a call for submissions for the August 2010 Show of what photographers in the Holy City feel through a lens…and want to share my view with you.

What is Charleston to me? The Holy City is a place of rest. The Magnolia Cemetery is eternal rest but so much history from our city rests there.

The ocean that surrounds our fair city is my peace and it also supplies our economy with so much. The shrimp boat going out with the cross at Camp St. Christopher on Seabrook is a great combination of “Charleston” to so many.

The only 3 sided lighthouse in the world is graced every fall with Butterflies that swirl around Sullivan’s Island bringing peace.

Who doesn’t have a calm thought as the sun rises from the Atlantic and begins to light our day with color and joy?

And when a church finally gets a steeple after living without a cross since the Civil War, PEACE is definitely restored.

And finally, as the boats float by the Spoleto Finale in the evening at Middleton Plantation and the smell of fried chicken picnics fill the air, we feel connected and calm at HOME in Charleston.

Here is YOUR invitation to join me with other Charleston Photographers as we display our chosen photos at Imaging Arts Gallery on King Street this August 6th from 5-8pm. The Sunrise Surfer and Perpetual Care photos will represent my submission to this great event… see you there! xo -jeni
